Coronavirus has thrown our entire world upside down. Everyone in the world has been severely affected by the disease, but are you wondering how the virus is going to change your plans for your education? We have some updates here covering everything from test dates to NCAA updates!

May & June SAT dates have been cancelled, but new dates have been added in September and October. Additional dates will continue to be added as soon as the public health situation allows. Best case scenario projections indicate that we could see test dates added for late August, but if they are unable to re-open testing centers in the fall the SAT will be launched online.

The ACT has also cancelled all exams through June, students registered for exams will receive an email with rescheduling instructions. On their website they are offering free practice tests. The TOEFL & GRE exams can be taken online from home. More colleges have now started to accept Duolingo's English exam as an alternative in reaction to IELTS and TOEFL being suspended in early spring, especially before TOEFL started to allow testing from home. The number of schools that accept The Duolingo English Test has almost doubled since Dec 2019. More info here

More and more universities are becoming “test optional” for fall 2021 (ex University of Boston) and fairtest.org has compiled an incredibly comprehensive spreadsheet detailing which universities are test optional for international students.

Due to global school closures, certain colleges including University of California and California State University are not requiring letter grades for 2020. Some universities are accepting “letter grade alternatives.”

College campuses are offering virtual tours (University of Pennsylvania and Virginia Tech). Visit your schools website and check if this is available!

The NCAA is considering distance and e-learning courses for eligibility. They are also providing students with the ability to play for another season, multiple students may be able to be on the same scholarship at once.

There is positive news, more students will want to defer than usual and colleges may be forced to increase enrollment among international students. Students are able to save money if they are applying to a school waiving the SAT/ACT, or if their desired school added the Duolingo test as an alternative to the TOEFL.
